When it comes to getting naked in the name of rock'n'roll a few names pop up from my battered memory bank. Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Nick Oliveri (QOTSA, Mondo Generator) the Blink 182 lads Mark and Tom and No Doubts drummer have all been known to show some skin. Well, you can all add another name to your list. In the category "Best Naked Performance" please enter: Tomoharu 'Gian' Ito (drums/head bashing) of Electric Eel Shock.
This Tuesday 6th April, he and his two fellow companions from Tokyo Aki Morimoto (guitars/vocals/crowd pleaser) and Kazuto Maekawa (bass/flying antics) make up the team of Electric Eel Shock. With this in mind - the success of the named bands above is definitely at "set up for life" level - what does this leave me to say about the Japanese Rock n Roll monster? Still quite a lot I believe.

A little history for starters! Since 1997 and after making a defiant stamp on the garage rock scene in their native territory, the band opted for broader horizons. They crossed the seas to the U.S.A. to see what impressions they could leave on audiences. Since that tour in 1999 the continuous touring hasn't eased - the band had only had 4 weeks in 2003 and 3 weeks in the beginning of this year. Probably how they also acquired the alter ego of EES - Rock & Roll Monster. All this touring has been in the name of spreading the "double peace" way of life into every corner of the globe they can reach. You could only imagine the countless hours they've spent together on busses and other forms of transport. Although, the amount of shows would only do wonders for the tightness of a band I would like to think.
For anyone who has come across the band along their travels you will know what is about to be said. Electric Eel Shock give it their all when playing for you. If you want your monies worth at a gig with a guaranteed 100% performance, I recommend these guys to you. They play loud, enjoy the stage, get naked and rock your socks off. As for the style of tunes you'll hear at an EES show, think of AC DC / Sabbath style riffs with all the energy and enthusiasm you would see from Bruce D at a Maiden show. So with all this...any one keen to check out EES next time they're your hometown?
Don't forget the earplugs!!!
