Mando Diao hit the U.S. of A
venue: Troubadour, West Hollywood
date: 2005-05-10
Sweden's own Mando Diao have been on the road in the US for the past month to promote their second album, Hurricane Bar, released Stateside on 8 March (Mute Records). Kicking off the tour in New York, the band ripped through the East Coast, bits of Canada, along the Pacific, then Texas, and finally ended full circle in New York City again. Along the way they partook in the customary wild bus parties, devoured buffalo steaks and milkshakes, celebrated Bjorn's birthday in San Francisco, were received as guests of Vince Niel, accepted massages from some male stranger in California, and got tons of free shirts/comics/candy, cds, etc. Who wouldn't want to be along for that ride?

Stereoscent was in Los Angeles when the quartet arrived to shake up the Hollywood hipsters. Tickets were still available before the show started, but by the time Mando Diao took to the stage, the floor became packed with excited music fans. Bjorn Dixgard and Gustaf Norens' co lead vocals and electrifying exchanges with one another, somewhat reminiscent of the now defunct Libertines, riled up the crowd into a dancing frenzy. Since you couldn't be there, we went and took some photographs so you could live vicariously through us. Enjoy!
